International Computer Security Day

 

Every November 30th is International Computer Security Day, which started in 1988 when technological progress brought new concerns about privacy and security; thus, the day is dedicated to keeping your online data safe and secure. In addition to hacking and viruses, our computers now have access to our banks, government offices, and businesses, leading to more data being at risk. Remember to ensure that your data in the cloud is safe and to create strong passwords that you update regularly.

Cada 30 de noviembre se celebra el Día Internacional de la Seguridad de la Información ( Online). Todo empezó en 1988 cuando a raíz del progreso tecnológico surgieron preocupaciones sobre la privacidad y la seguridad. Así que el día de hoy se dedica a velar por la seguridad de tus datos online. Asegúrate de que tienes toda tu información online en la nube y de que cambias tus contraseñas cada cierto tiempo.

Mon-yayyyyyyy!

 It’s Mon-yayyyy again!!! So that means during our break it was time to practice English actively. We had so much fun getting to know . It was kind of hard to work what some drawings were, but that was the whole point. Thanks for joining us, students!! See you again next week!

25 November = International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women

 The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December).

This campaign, led by the UN Secretary-General and UN Women since 2008, aims to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world, calling for global action to increase awareness, promote advocacy and create opportunities for discussion on challenges and solutions.

On this day, the color  is used to represent a brighter future, free from violence against women and girls.

Many different activities have been carried out at school during this week in order to observe this important day. Have a look at the comics our students have made, which have been displayed at the main entrance.

25 de noviembre = Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer

El Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer marcará el lanzamiento de la campaña ÚNETE (25 de noviembre - 10 de diciembre), una iniciativa que concluirá el día en que se conmemora el Día Internacional de los Derechos Humanos (10 de diciembre).

Esta campaña tiene como objetivo prevenir y eliminar la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas en todo el mundo, haciendo un llamamiento a la acción global para aumentar la conciencia, promover la defensa y crear oportunidades para el debate sobre los desafíos y las soluciones.

En este día, el color 🟧 se utiliza para representar un futuro más brillante, libre de violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas.

Durante esta semana se han llevado a cabo diferentes actividades en el centro para observar este importante día. Echa un vistazo a los cómics que han realizado nuestros alumnos, expuestos en la entrada principal.

Thanksgiving learning stations

Thank YOU all for being there, for reading us, for giving us your likes, for taking your time in having a look at what we do with so much enthusiasm. But, above all, we are really grateful to our dear @opoenglish because we had a fabulous time with her Thanksgiving Learning Stations, where our students practiced not only reading and vocabulary, but also cooperative writing in their Thank-someone-in-school letters. We were moved to tears by your kind and lovely words. Really. So let’s not forget how important it is to say THANK YOU.

Muchas gracias a tod@s por estar ahí, por leernos, por darnos vuestros likes, por dedicar vuestro tiempo a ver lo que hacemos con mucha ilusión, pero sobre todo estamos superagradecidas a @opoenglish porque hemos disfrutado muchísimo con sus Estaciones de Aprendizaje sobre Thanksgiving en las que los alumnos han practicado no solo lectura y vocabulario, sino también escritura cooperative redactando cartas de agradecimiento al personal del centro. Vuestras palabras nos han emocionado. De verdad. Así que no olvidemos la importancia de dar y decir GRACIAS.

Bordeless Communication Session 2

The second session of our project Borderless Communication Romania and Spain has taken place this evening. We have talked about our respective schools and school systems establishing differences and similarities. What an interesting activity!

Hoy ha tenido lugar la segunda sesión de nuestro proyecto "Comunicación sin fronteras Rumanía y España". En esta ocasión,hemos mostrado presentaciones y vídeos sobre nuestros respectivos centros y sistemas educativos,comentando diferencias y similitudes. ¡Ha sido muy interesante! 

At the restaurant

 

Our students in ESO1 have done a role play ordering food at a restaurant as a task within a learning situation in English/Literacy class with Ms Gómez, allowing them to increase their communicative competence in English together with some other key competencies such as STEAM competence (adapt their order to a budget), personal, social and learning to learn competence (follow politeness conventions) and cultural and artistic competence (know about popular dishes and types of restaurants in England) Great job,class.

El alumnado de 1°ESO ha realizado un role play pidiendo comida en un restaurante como tarea dentro de una situación de aprendizaje en clase de inglés.De este modo han mejorado su competencia plurilingüe y otras competencias claves tales como STEM (adaptarse a un presupuesto,calcular la cantidad que cada comensal debe abonar),la competencia personal,social y aprender a aprender (respetando convenciones y normas de cortesía) y la competencia en conciencia y expresión culturales (conociendo platos típicos británicos y tipos de restaurantes populares). ¡Buen trabajo,chicos/as!

Taking the knee

 

Taking the knee (or taking a knee) is a symbolic gesture against racism whereby an individual kneels upon one knee in place of standing to attention for an anthem or other such occasion. It was originated by American football player Colin Kaepernick on September 1, 2016, in protest against the lack of attention given to the issues of racial inequality and police brutality in the United States. Kaepernick's protest led to a wider series of national anthem protests.

It has since been adopted by football players in countries around the world in solidarity with Kaepernick's protest against racism, and has been seen worldwide in non-sporting contexts such as the Black Lives Matter protests.

El jugador de fútbol americano Colin Kaepernick popularizó el gesto de hincar la rodilla durante la interpretación del himno estadounidense en un partido.

El jugador afroamericano protestó de esa manera inédita contra la opresión de la que era objeto “la gente de color” en Estados Unidos. El gesto se universalizó hace unos años a raíz del asesinato en Mineapolis de un ciudadano negro, George Floyd.

Hoy en día, deportistas en Europa como los futbolistas del Liverpool o el Chelsea repiten el gesto antes de sus partidos como forma de protesta contra la discriminación racial.

Interview to two German students

Our #ESO2 students become journalists for a day and interview two German students , Phillip and Martin, who have been paying us a visit this week as they’re on an Erasmus mobility for the project @vr_and_games_4_industry_4.0 ( ViRGIn 4.1) that is currently being developed in our high school. STEM challenge...accepted!

History and Science at the same time? Yes, please!!! This past week, #ESO1 students enjoyed a special ( and very sweet!) STEM challenge working out in teams how to model the legendary Biscuithenge with only@one packet of wafer biscuits during their #History session with Ms Paniagua and Ms Muñoz. Excellent communication skills and critical thinking were shown! Well done, students!!

Esta semana los alumnos de #ESO1 han podido completar un desafío STEM muy especial y dulce: construir el legendario Biscuithenge con barquillos de nata. Una actividad que les ha permitido desarrollar su pensamiento crítico y poner en práctica sus habilidades lingüísticas para proponer estrategias y tomar decisiones . ¡ Gran trabajo de equipo! 

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a holiday held in UK on the second Sunday of November that commemorates British service members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I. It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, back in 1918. By tradition, a two-minute period of silence is observed throughout the country at 11 AM, and church services and other ceremonial gatherings take place during the day. A nationally televised remembrance service has been held for decades at the Cenotaph monument in central London. 

In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, there are many people on the TV and in the streets wearing a poppy. This is a symbol to remember those who have lost their lives in conflicts around the world,due to the famous poem In Flanders Fields.

Holidays similar to Remembrance Day are still celebrated on November 11 in other countries such as United States, Australia,Canada and France.

El Día del Recuerdo o Día de la Amapola se celebra en el Reino Unido el segundo domingo de noviembre para conmemorar a los soldados británicos que han fallecido en guerras y otros conflictos militares desde la Primera Guerra Mundial. El día 11 de noviembre marca el fin de dicha guerra. Desde hace décadas, se guardan dos minutos de silencio a las 11 am, pues es la hora a la que entró en vigor el armisticio, y se lleva a cabo un acto que es retransmitido por televisión,al que asisten políticos, líderes religiosos y miembros de la familia real.

Durante el mes de noviembre es tradición lucir una amapola en la solapa, símbolo de este día gracias al poema "En los Campos de Flandes".

El día 11 hay celebraciones similares en países tales como Estados Unidos, Australia, Canadá y Francia

Esta mañana hemos estado aprendiendo sobre esta tradición,¿os gustan nuestras flores?

 Our #ESO1 students show off their animal/ plant cell projects and practice what they’ve learnt in their #naturalsciences class with Ms Martínez and Ms Muñoz with a game of Guess Which Cell Part I am for #semanadelacienciaylatecnología in Extremadura.

How do fireworks get their colours?

 

Last Monday during their #PhysicsandChemistry session with Ms Mateos and Ms Muñoz our #ESO2 students learnt about the chemistry involved in fireworks to discover how they get their bright and breathtaking colours. What a great way to celebrate our very own ( and very safe!) Guy Fawkes’ firework display for #semanadelacienciaylatecnologíaenextremadura. We made ‘inverted or flipped fireworks’, which worked wonders ( despite having a minor hiccup during the process!).
